Honda Cars to expand Tapakura facility; to invest Rs 380 cr

The company is planning to complete the expansion by mid next year which will ramp up its capacity by 50% to 1.8 lakh cars per annum

Honda Cars India today announced expansion of its production facility in Tapukara, Rajasthan with an investment of Rs 380 crore.

The company is planning to complete the expansion by mid next year which will ramp up its capacity by 50 per cent to 1.8 lakh cars per annum.

"We will launch the third generation Honda Jazz in July this year and this car will be fully manufactured in Tapukara plant where we are increasing our production capacity from 1.2 lakh units to 1.8 lakh units per annum by mid-2016 with an investment of Rs 380 crore," Honda Cars India Senior Vice President and Director Raman Sharma said.

The plant currently manufactures Honda City and also some volume of Honda Amaze.
 

With robust response to its models, including sedans City and Amaze, the company has witnessed 41 per cent growth in domestic sales during the last fiscal at 1,89,602 units.

The passenger cars manufacturing company also announced to strengthen its dealership network and product portfolio in the country.

"Currently, we have a network of 232 dealers in the country and we are aiming to increase it to 300 dealers by the end of this financial year," he said.

The Tapukara plant had started assembly operations in February 2014.

It integrates various functions, including operations for forging, casting, stamping, power-train components production, painting, engine assembly and frame assembly, as well as an engine testing facility.
