West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today announced hike in the honorarium for jatra artistes to Rs 8000, up from Rs 7000 now.
She announced the hike at the inaguration of the 25-day Jatra festival at Barasat, North 24 Parganas.
Stressing the importance of jatra (traditional folk theatre), Banerjee said they are important in social life and urged people to extend their cooperation to the artistes for its promotion in the society.
The state administration, she said, is existing assistance for promoting jatra in the state.
