"Such an ideology cannot be beneficial to the country --It can again trigger tension in future", Dr Singh told reporters on the sidelines of the programme "Unity and Diversity" organised by Rama Krishen Mission on the 150th year of Swami Vivekananda here today.

He was replying to volley of question about the honouring the kin of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's assassins by the head of Sikh community's highest temporal seat the Akal Takht.

"It is sad and condemnable-- Indira's killers honouring and the way she was killed is unfortunate', he said.

Satwant Singh and Kehar Singh, the two killers of the former Prime Minister, were honoured on their 24th death anniversary amid presence of a local Akali leader.

They were hanged on January 6, 1989 after a trial for killing Gandhi in 1984.

Jathedar Gaini Gurbachan Singh had yesterday presented a 'siropa' (robe of honour) to Tirlok Singh, father of Satwant Singh at a function organised by SGPC. The 'Jathedar' also accorded them the status of 'martyrs of faith'.

Referring to the comments of Bapu Asaram, he said "what can most unfortunate than his statements--it is sad thing".

Addressing his followers recently, Asaram had said that when the girl encountered six drunk men "she should have taken God's name and could have held the hand of one of the men and said I consider you as my brother and should have said to the other two 'Brother I am helpless, you are my brother, my religious brother.'

She should have taken God's name and held their hands and feet...Then the misconduct wouldn't have happened."

If the Guru like him says so it is sad, he said, adding, "Women have highest place in the Indian culture-- every Godess's name is being recited before the name of God-- Sita Ram, Radha-Krishen, Lakishmi-Narayan and Uma Maheswar".

"It is unfortunate that incidents (anti-women) are taking place --I cannot comment on it but only thing I want to say is that it is shame for the country that such incidents are taking place".

Replying to another question about RSS chief's comment, he said,"It is same--India and Bharat is one -- we are proud of both the names".

RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat had said rape is mainly prevalent in urban India due to western influence and that such crimes against women do not happen in rural areas of the country.
