A state run hospital in Malda district today extracted a bullet from the leg of a 12-year-old boy, a day after it released him saying there was nothing lodged inside.

The Malda Medical College Hospital had yesterday said the bullet only grazed his skin though the boy kept crying in great pain, his father Abinash Das alleged today.

As the pain became unbearable, the boy had been taken to a nursing home at night. An x-ray taken there revealed that the bullet was lodged inside the leg.

The boy was brought back to the hospital this morning where doctors operated on him and the bullet was removed, Das said.

Medical Superintendent cum Vice-principal of the hospital, Dr M A Rashid said it was an unfortunate incident and it would be enquired.

"If anyone is found guilty, action will be taken," Rashid said.

The boy was injured by a bullet during a clash between two groups over building a temple at Sahapur near Malda town yesterday, the police said.

Four persons were arrested in this connection.
