A sweeper working in a hospital has been arrested for his alleged involvement in stealing two-wheelers in the capital, police said today.

Sumit from UP's Sambhal district was apprehended after a tip-off, police said, adding that his name had cropped up during an investigation in a case of scooty-theft from Rani Bagh, they said.

Six stolen scootys were allegedly recovered from him.

After stealing, Sumit used to take the scootys to New Delhi Railway station and would take a lift from a passing tempo going towards his native district.

"He was trying to collect at least ten scootys so that he could start a new business of sale-purchase of second hand two-wheelers in his village. He was planning to tell villagers that was purchasing the scootys from a firm in Delhi," P Karunakaran, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-West), said.

Sumit, a class 10th dropout, was working as a sweeper in a hospital in Rani Bagh.

"He started stealing scootys as documents were not required for selling them," Karunakaran said.
