Superintendent Panchanan Kundu said the attackers who damaged computer, photo-copier and furniture of the chamber were not related to the family of the dead girl but some political workers.

Sixteen-year-old Rimpa Adhikari was admitted to the Bankura Sammilani Medical College Hospital on Sunday and was operated on appendicitis the next day.

It was found yesterday that Rimpa had dengue, Kundu said adding she died at about 4 am.

"Though her family members did not complaint of negligence, those political workers ransacked my chamber," Kundu said.

The hospital authorities lodged an FIR in connection with the ransacking and set up a three-member committee to investigate the cause of the girl's death, he said.

The body was not sent for post-mortem as her family members did not demand it, he said.
