Capital Delhi recorded a maximum of 38.6 degrees celsius, five more than normal and a minimum of 29.3 degrees celsius, three notches above the usual.
Moderate to rather heavy rain and thundershowers occurred at many places over eastern UP and a few places over western parts of the state in the last 24 hours.
The places which received rainfall included Ankinghat, Balrampur, Bisauli, Utaraula, Balrampur, Akbarpur, Solan, Elginbridge, Unnao, Sitapur, Faizabad, Auraiya, Biswan, Shahganj, Ayodhya and Amethi.
The Met office has forecast moderate to heavy rain at most places over the state in the next 24 hours.
People of Punjab and Haryana also bore the brunt of rising temperatures and high humidity levels.
In Chandigarh, the humidity level in the city was as high as 90 per cent. The maximum and minimum temperatures in the city were 35.3 degrees celsius and 26.6 degrees celsius respectively.
In Amritsar mercury soared by 5 notches above normal and settled at 39.3 degrees Celsius. Ludhiana and Patiala had a high of 35 deg C and 35.6 deg C, up by upto two degrees above normal.
In Haryana, Rohtak and Bhiwani had a high of 37.9 deg C and 38.8 deg C, up by 4 degrees above normal.
