Heat wave swept across Punjab and Haryana with sultry weather conditions causing discomfort to people as Mercury hovered several notches above normal level.
Union Territory Chandigarh recorded maximum at 39 deg C, up by 4 degrees above normal, MeT department report said.
Hisar in Haryana was the hottest place in both the states at 43.5 deg C, up by five degrees above normal.

Among other places in Haryana, Ambala, Bhiwani, Karnal and Narnaul had high of 39.6 deg C, 42.4 deg C, 39 deg C and 42 deg C respectively, five degrees above normal.
In Punjab, Mercury in Amritar touched 42.2 deg C mark, up by 7 degrees above normal while Ludhiana and Patiala recording high of 40 deg C each.
MeT department predicted partly cloudy weather in the neighbouring states in next 24 hours.
