Hot weather conditions prevail in north India

Hot weather conditions prevailed in north India today with the mercury hovering above the 40 degrees Celsius mark in many areas.

In the national capital, a scorching sun raised the maximum temperature to 39.5 degrees Celsius, two notches above the normal, as Delhiites braved another hot and dry day.

The maximum temperature was recorded at 38.6 degrees Celsius yesterday while it is expected to touch 40 degrees Celsius tomorrow, a MeT official said.

The minimum temperature on the day was recorded two notches below the season's average at 21.1 degrees Celsius.

The humidity ranging from a maximum of 67 per cent to 20 per cent minimum during the day was indicative of rising dryness of the season, the official added.
 

Many areas in the western region of Rajasthan sweltered under temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius. Day temperatures in many areas of the state hovered above normal levels.

According to MeT officials, Barmer and Churu were the hottest place in the state with a maximum temperature of 42.2 degrees, followed by Ganganagar 41.9 and Bikaner 41.4 degrees Celsius.

Rajasthan capital Jaipur recorded day temperature at 40.5 degrees Celsius.

Though there was some respite from heatwave that blew over the region last week, sultry conditions prevailed in the region and a blazing sun added to the discomfort of the residence.

Bhiwani was the hottest place in Haryana with a maximum temperature of 40.4 degrees Celsius as the mercury rose across the state and its neighbouring Punjab.

Hisar braved a hot day at 39.8 degrees while Ambala and Karnal recorded above normal maximum temperatures os 38.1 and 38.5 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Chandigarh's maximum temperature settled at 37.5 degrees, MeT officials said. Amritsar in Punjab registered a high of 38.4 degrees, two notches above normal.
