Kolkata Police this evening arrested one person from Jharkhand for allegedly being involved in the double murder case at a city hotel last month.

Ajay Pandit (24) alias Mohan Pandey was arrested from his residence at Josidih in Jharkhand's Deoghar district by a team of city police, Kolkata Police Spl. Addl. And Jt. Commissioner of Police (Crime) Pallab Kanti Ghosh said.

The victims have been identified as Ajay's wife Kajol Pandit (22) and Nandini Pandit (8), daughter of his sister-in-law, with whom he was allegedly having an affair, Ghosh said.

Ajay, who committed this crime to get rid of his wife, was currently living with his sister-in-law at Gidhaur in Bihar's Jamui district, he said.

Asked whether his sister-in-law had any role in the two murders, Ghosh said that police were "still looking into that".

On June 30, police recovered bodies of a woman and a girl from a room of a city hotel. A man who had booked the hotel room had claimed the woman and the girl to be his wife and daughter respectively.

Police while investigating the case had found that the man had produced a stolen voter identity card to book the room.
