A BJP councillor today alleged that an international hotel chain was flouting rules by organising wedding ceremonies in its premises without the requisite licence, a charge which the hotel denied.
BJP councillor of East Delhi Municipal Corporation, Mahendra Ahuja said the hotel in Shahadra has been organising marriage functions without requisite permission from either the health or the police department.
"The Kempinski Ambience hotel got its license from the health department only on January 9 this year. However, it has been organising events at its premises since August 2012. In fact, I have myself attended three weddings at the venue in the last year on August 11, December 7 and 11," Ahuja said in the weekly Standing Committee meeting of EDMC.

The councillor demanded a probe into his claims.
"I demand that the commissioner's office enquire into this issue. How could the hotel serve food to hundreds of guests without clearance from the health department?" he asked.
Rejecting the allegations, a spokesperson from the Kempinski Ambience hotel in a written statement said, "We abide by the law and have all the licenses in place. The copy can be collected from the respective department."
Ahuja also alleged that the swimming pool in the hotel is being operated without a clearance. "The Sports Authority of India needs to clear the pool before the health officials can give a green light. They don't have the SAI approval till date," he alleged.
Commissioner S S Yadav assured the councillor that the matter would be looked into.
