Several houses were gutted in a fire in southeast Delhi's Jamia Nagar area in the wee hours today.

Five fire tenders were rushed to the spot and it took more than an hour for them to douse the fire, said an official at the Delhi Fire Services.

In a separate incident, several shops were gutted in a major fire that broke out at northwest Delhi's Rani Bagh area yesterday night.

As many as 13 fire tenders were rushed to the spot and it took them several hours to douse the flames, said a fire official.

The fire spread further when the LPG cylinder at an eatery in the area exploded.

The shop owners in the area tried to douse the flames using fire extinguishers but the fire spread rapidly as large amount of inflammable materials were stored in many godowns in the market there, said the fire official.

No casualties or major injuries were reported in both the incidents. Police have registered cases under relavant sections of law and the causes of fire in both cases are yet to be ascertained, said police.
