Housewife allegedly duped to the tune of Rs 1.88 lakh

The police has launched a manhunt for a man from Gandhi Dham in Gujarat who allegedly duped a Thane housewife to the tune of Rs 1.88 lakh and also raped her, a police official said here today.

Police inspector M D Survase of the Rabodi police station told PTI that the accused who was identified as Vipul Bhanushali bought clothes from the lady and did not pay her any money. He also took her to a lodge in the city and raped her, the woman's complaint stated.

Later, he came to her with some "gold ornaments", mortgaged them with her for Rs 1 lakh as well as an additional Rs 8,000, the complaint stated, adding that the ornaments mortgaged by him proved to be fake.
 

The complaint stated that the lady was thus cheated to the tune of Rs 1,88,000 by the man from Gujerat, for whom the police are hunting.

A case has been booked against him under Sections 420 and Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code, the police said.
