Senior Congress leader and Union Minister of State for Health Abu Hasem Khan Chowdhury today alleged that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee refused land to set up AIIMS in Raiganj but now she has announced setting up of a Medical College by the state government at Raiganj.

"West Bengal government could not provide land for setting up of AIIMS type hospital in Raiganj by the Centre. But now the same state government has announced that a medical college would be set up in Raiganj. Who will provide the land for setting up of the medical college," he told reporters at Kaliachak.

If the state government can provide land for setting up a medical college then why it could not provide land for setting up of an AIIMS type hospital at Raiganj, the Union Minister of state for Health asked.

The Centre had agreed to provide money for setting up of the AIIMS at Raiganj but as the state government refused to provide land so it could not be set up, he said.

Khan Chowdhury said the Congress would launch an agitation in North Bengal against the state government's refusal to provide land for setting up of the AIIMS at Raiganj.
