Himachal BJP today accepted the challenge of Congress for an open debate on the financial position of the state, and asked the latter to chose a suitable place and time as per its convenience for the debate.

Congress chief spokesman Kuldeep Singh Pathania had yesterday blamed the previous BJP government for financial crisis in the state and challenged the party for an open debate on the issue.

BJP spokesman and party general secretary, Randhir Sharma promptly responded to the challenge and asked Pathania to fix the venue and time.

Welcoming the move, Sharma said Congress had been avoiding debate on key issues for past two years and even in Assembly, it avoided discussion on financial health of the state and rejected repeated demands for a white paper on the same.

"Let there be an open debate as demanded by Pathania aand people would come to know about the truth," he said.

Accusing Congress of adopting double standards on the issue, Sharma took a jibe at Pathania, saying that the chairmen and vice-chairmen appointed by the BJP government were worth the post and did not succumb to political pressure like Congress which appoints politicians who lost in polls.

The BJP general secretary also asked that if everything was fine, then why did the Congress government raise loans amounting more than 8,000 crores in the past two years.

Meanwhile, Union Health Minister J P Nadda today met Rajesh Sharda, a BJYM worker who sustained serious eye injury in a clash between BJYM and Youth Congress workers at BJP office on January 29, at PGI Chandigarh and enquired about his health.
