The Himachal Cabinet today decided to rename "Atal free school uniform" project as "Mahatma Gandhi Vardi Yojana", hinting at possibilities that some other schemes launched during the previous BJP regime might also be renamed. The previous BJP government had launched 'Atal School Uniform Scheme' under which free school uniforms are being provided to students from Classes I to X in state-run schools twice a year. The state cabinet decided to change the name of the scheme to 'Mahatma Gandhi Vardi Yojana', sources said adding, that few more projects initiated in the BJP government may be renamed. It also decided to constitute a committee under the Chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary for finalisation of purchase of cloth, specification, design, colour and handling charges.
