HP CM announces Rs 20 lakh for family of martyred jawan

Family of Sepoy Tanzin Chhultim from Lahaul and Spiti district who was killed in Kashmir by militants today would be givencompensation of Rs 20 lakh by Himachal Pradesh government.

The state government has made a policy for giving uniform compensation to all the army persons killed during operations against militants and other actions, chief minister Virbhadra Singh said here.

The government had taken a decision to enhance the amount of compensation from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 20 lakh in June this year and the decision has been implemented, he said.

Major Kamlesh Pandey and Chhultim were killed and a jawan was injured in the firing by militants at Zainapora in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir during a cordon and search operation launched by security forces.
 

Born on November 18, 1991 at Karpat village in Udaipur area of Lahaul and Spiti district in Himachal Pradesh, Tanzin Chhultim joined the Army in September 2012.

He was unmarried and survived by his mother Tanzin Angmo.
