Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur called on Union Minister for Civil Aviation Suresh Prabhu at New Delhi Thursday, where the two leaders discussed ways to get speedy clearance for construction of an international airport in Mandi district, an official spokesperson said.
Thakur thanked the Union minister for conducting an Obstruction Limitation Surface (OLS) survey for the proposed airport at Mandi, the spokesperson said.
Seven hundred acres of land -- of which 640 acres is private land and 60 government land -- has been identified at Naagchala for airport construction, he said, adding that Mandi, being the central point of the state and the gateway to border area, is a strategically important place.
The chief minister urged Prabhu for providing speedy clearance for construction of airport besides providing budget for the same.
Thakur also sought assistance for launching UDAAN-2 project in the state soon so that connectivity gets strengthened and more tourists can reach the state at affordable rates.
Besides, he also requested the Union minister for expansion of the Shimla airport.
Prabhu assured him of all possible assistance to the state on the discussed issues and directed the officers to do the needful, the spokesperson added.
