Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur today urged Union Environment minister Harsh Vardhan to grant clearances to Himachal Pradesh government projects aimed at preserving the state's natural resources.
In a meeting in New Delhi, the Union minister assured the chief minister that the Centre would give its full support to the efforts of the Himachal Pradesh government in this direction, according to a press release issued here.
"The state environment, science and technology department had submitted two projects of estimated cost of Rs 1,644.32 crore to the Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Ministry through NABARD," the chief minister informed Vardhan.
Thakur said, "Rs 1,125.32 crore is for the project on water conservation and community management of natural water resources and Rs 492 crore is for climate-based forest management."
Efforts will also be made by the Centre to provide technical and financial clearance for the two projects after detailed study, the release read.
Thakur said apart from this, three more projects of Rs 57 crore have been submitted under the National Adaptation Fund for Climate Change for approval.
These include Rs 20.49 crore for a project to deal with the constant shrinking of glaciers in the Parvati Valley and the potential danger of flood, the chief minister said.
He said Rs 19.92 crore is proposed for a project to promote agriculture and horticulture in view of climate change in the Banjar Valley and Rs 17.34 crore to conserve ecology balance by reducing pressure on forest, Tahkur said.
