HP CPI(M) leader Ghuman passes away after protracted illness

Veteran CPI(M) leader and former general secretary of Himachal Pradesh Kisan Sabha, Kuldeep Singh Ghuman, passed away following prolonged illness.

A member of CPI-M's state secretariat, Ghuman (75) died yesterday at PGI, Chandigarh where he had been shifted last week after his condition deteriorated, party sources said.

He was cremated at Chandigarh today and his funeral was attended by several CPI(M)leaders including Himachal Kisan Sabha president Kuldeep Singh Tanwar.

Hailing from Kapurthala district in Punjab, Singh had settled in Solan district's Kumarhatti and spent most of his life in Himachal Pradesh.

Ghuman was actively engaged in several social activities and had conducted many studies on farmers, includingan intensive study in 2001 on the plight of farmers in the state who possessed meagre landholdings.
