HP: Lavi fair begins in Rampur

Himachal Pradesh Governor Acharya Devvrat today inaugurated the four-day traditional Lavi Fair, ending November 14, at Rampur, around 135 km from here.

The state is known for its rich culture, customs and traditions, which was evident as people celebrate all religious and traditional festivals with great enthusiasm and fervor, he said.

The governor said that the fairs and festivals played an important role in preserving the rich cultural heritage of the state and efforts should be made to preserve it and restore its old glory.

He said this fair remained an important for trade between India and Tibet for centuries and was a unique example of the glorious, social, cultural, economic history and legacy of Himachal Pradesh.
 

Devvrat urged the people to come forward in eradicating social evils like female foeticide and expressed concern over drug abuse.
