In a written reply to Rajya Sabha, Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad said his ministry was working towards opening a CGHS centre in Shimla that will cater to central government employees and pensioners.
He, however, did not specify a time line.
Azad said serving central government employees residing in areas not covered by CGHS like Himachal Pradesh can avail health benefits under Central Services (Medical Attendance) Rules, while central civil pensioners residing in non-CGHS area have the option to avail the facilities from the nearest CGHS city.
He said pensioners residing in non-CGHS area can also opt for fixed medical allowance of Rs 300 per month instead of OPD treatment.
