HPPCL judged 'Best performing utility in hydro power sector'

Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd (HPPCL), a state government undertaking,has been conferred with the 'CBIP Award for Best Performing Utility in Hydro Power Sector' in the country.

The award was presented byUnion Minister of State for Water Resources Sanjeev Kumar Balyan to D K Sharma, Managing Director, HPPCL in a ceremony held inNew Delhi today.

The award has been given for "outstanding contribution to the nation by efficient development and operation of hydroelectric projects in Himachal Pradesh using latest technologies and smart solutions", a spokesperson of HPPCL said.

Sharma thanked the Central Board of Irrigation and Power (CBIP) for conferring the award to HPPCL and dedicated it to all officers and employees of the corporation.
 

HPPCL has put under commercial operation its first project -- Kashang Hydro Electric Project - Stage I (65 MW) -- on September 1, 2016. Thesecond unit of 65 MW has been commissioned and the third generating unit of 65 MW capacity has been tested mechanically and would be commissioned by January 15, 2017.

The project is expected to generateabout 450 million units of electricity annually, accruing revenue of about Rs 130 crore to the state exchequer.

He added that HPPCL will commission its 100 MW Sainj Hydro Electric Project by March 2017 and Sawra Kuddu Project by December 2017.
