HPSEB union to meet on November 11 to discuss franchisee issue

The central executive committee of Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board (HPSEB) Employees Union, comprising 600 representatives, will hold its meeting on November 11 at Chamba to discuss major issues.

The meeting will discuss the issue of "franchisee", which had been introduced on a large-scale in the board and adopt resolutions on some other issues pertaining to measures to be taken to strengthen the board, secretary general of the union Hira Lal Verma said.

Detailed deliberation will be held with regard to holding of General Conference as well as election of the Union.

The Union appreciated the historical decision taken by the state government to strengthening the HPSEB during the past 20 months and hailed the Rs 1,462-crore package announced by the chief minister to bail out the board.
 

Verma said that a recruitment drive to fill 2,250-odd posts of various categories is in process and five new Hydropower Projects have been allotted to HPSEB for execution to overcome the power shortage.

Describing the agreement arrived between the government and HPSEBL with regard to its equity power in Nathpa Jhakri Hydel Project as "historic", he said that now the power would be utilised by HPSEBL for all times to come and bridge the demand-supply gap.
