Passengers of Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) buses can buy tickets with old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes till tomorrow, state transport minister G S Bali said today.

"As the new currency notes are yet to be made available to all people of Himachal Pradesh, the state government has decided to accept old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes from passengers using HRTC bus services to avoid harassment," he said here.

Lower denomination currency notes have been made availableto all bus conductors, he said.

"However, I would request people to purchase tickets online for long journeys," the minister said.

Taking the nation by surprise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced demonetisation of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 banknotes with effect from midnight of November 8 in a major assault on black money, fake currency and corruption.
