Hry approves incentive release for outstanding sportspersons

The state cabinet, which met here this evening under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, approved the cash award of Rs 25 lakh each given to three sportspersons of Beijing Olympics Games, who had not represented Haryana.

They included Abhinav Bindra for shooting, Sushil Kumar for wrestling and Saina Nehwal for badminton, an official release said here.

The cabinet also approved Rs 15 lakh cash award given to Sushil Kumar, gold medallist at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and coaches of those medal winners who have not represented Haryana in sports competition.

The coaches who were given cash award of Rs 2.51 lakh each included Yashvir Singh and Satpal Singh.

 

It also approved award of Rs 22.50 lakh in cash given to shooter Gagan Narang, medal winner in 2010 Asian Games who had not represented Haryana in sports competition and award of Rs two lakh each to three shooting coaches namely Stanislav Lapidus, Samresh Jung and S S Thatte.

Ex-post-facto approval was also given to the cash incentive given to the two members of Indian hockey team who belonged to Haryana and had qualified for London Olympics.

A total of Rs 47 lakh as award money was given to hockey player Sandeep Singh. Sardar Singh was given Rs 11 lakh as an incentive for qualifying for the London Olympics. The remaining 16 hockey players of the Indian team belonging to other States were given Rs 2.51 lakh each.
