The Haryana government has instructed farmers not to burn crop residue with an aim to curb the environmental pollution in the state, neighbouring Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR).

Strict action would be taken against those found engaging in the activity, Additional Director General Police (Law and Order) Mohd Akil said here today.

"Taking cognisance of the increase in pollution, the National Green Tribunal, the Supreme Court and the government found that it was caused by burning of crop residue," he said.

Police personnel have instructed farmers not to burn crop residue which not only causes harm to the environment but adversely affects human health as well, Akil said.

"Farmers would be educated about the adverse effects of burning crop residue. Deputy commissioners of all districts have also been asked to take strict action against violators," he added.
