Hry govt constitutes committee for protection of women from sexual harassment at workplace

With a view to providing protection against sexual harassment of women at workplace, the Haryana government has constituted an internal complaint committee, an official spokesperson said today.

He said that in terms of provisions of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal Act, 2013, the internal complaint committee would be deemed to be an inquiry authority for the purpose of the Haryana Civil Services (Punishment and Appeal) Rules, 2016 and the report of the committee would be deemed to be an inquiry report.

Disciplinary authority would act upon the report in accordance with the rules, the spokesperson said.

 

The internal complaints committee would be responsible for redressal of the complaint made by the victim and ensure time-bound treatment of the complaint as provided in the Act, he said.

The spokesperson said Neerja Shekhar would be the chairperson or presiding officer of the committee, whereas Neelam Kashyap, Deputy Advocate General, Haryana, Aarti Chadha, librarian and Satbir Singh, Under Secretary would be its members.

The presiding officer and every member of the internal complaint committee would hold office for such period not exceeding three years, from the date of his or her nomination, he added.
