The Haryana government today revoked the suspension of state staff selection commission chairman B B Bharti months after action was taken against him over aspiring junior engineers being asked to identify as to what was not a bad omen, with the options including a black Brahmin, a Brahmin girl.

"The Haryana government has re-instated the services of Bharat Bhushan Bharti, Chairman, Haryana Staff Selection Commission with immediate effect," an official statement said.

It said the decision was taken keeping in view the inquiry report submitted to the state government by the Justice Darshan Singh Inquiry Commission, which had been constituted earlier over the issue.

After the row erupted, BJP government had also decided to register an FIR against a "Delhi-based company which was awarded the contract for setting the paper", the paper-setter and the publisher, Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma had said.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had also decided to set up a high-level inquiry commission to investigate the matter. Bharti would remain suspended till the inquiry is completed, Sharma had earlier said.

Commenting on revoking of the suspension by the government, senior Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala tweeted, "As expected, Chief Minister Khattar's favourite, gets clean chit".
