Newly elected Hill State Peoples' Democratic Party (HSPDP) MLA Diosstarness Jyndiang who represents Nongstoin constituency in Meghalaya's West Khasi Hills district was today sworn in as a legislator.

Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker Abu Taher Mondal administered the oath of office to Jyndiang and was witnessed by Deputy Chief Minister R C Laloo, state home minister Roshan Warjri, sports minister Zenith Sangma and PWD minister Sniawbhalang Dhar and other leaders of his party.

Jyndiang, who defeated the ruling Congress candidate Gabriel Wahlang, in the November 21 by-elections, retained the seat held by his predecessor and party president Hoping Stone Lyngdoh for at least four decades.

The by-election was necessitated following Lyngdoh's passing away in September earlier this year.

Jyndiang vowed to continue to fight against any attempt to mine uranium in the state and to fight for proper demarcation of the inter-state border, which has been the bone of contention between the tribesmen and Nepalis in his constituency.
