Huge quantities of spurious milk, milk products seized in Punjab

Teams of the food and drug administration seized huge quantities of spurious milk, milk products and adulterants from two units in Punjab's Patiala and Moga districts today, an official said.

Acting on a tip off, a raid was conducted by food safety teams and the police at Singla Milk Chilling Centre near Devigarh in Patiala, Food and Drug Administration commissioner K S Pannu said.

He said 53 bags of milk powder, 250 litres of sulphuric acid, 1,530 litres of chemical, 750 litres of vinegar, 10 quintals of white powder, 9 kg detergent, 7,000 litres of milk, 20 quintals of cottage cheese and 45 kg butter were seized from the spot.

 

In the second raid at Vishnu Milk Centre in Moga's Bagha Purana, one quintal of skimmed milk powder, 15 kg detergent, 28 quintals of spurious clarified butter, 300 litres of curd and 300 kgcottage cheese were seized, he said.

Samples of all the products have been sent to the state lab in Kharar for testing, he added.

Prosecution proceedings will be launched after the reports are received, Pannu said.
