Huge quantity of firecrackers seized in Kerala

In a major haul, police today seized huge quantity firecrackers illegally stored at a shop in a busy market area here.

Around 1,000 kg of firecrackers illegally stored were seized during a raid on the store located at the market area in the Marine Drive area, police said.

The shop owner, who has licence to store 450 kg of firecrackers, has been booked for keeping firecrackers beyond permitted quantity in the area, which is also very close to a prominent educational institution, they said.

"Around 1,000 kg of firecrackers were stored illegally in the store room of the shop," a police official said.
 

Police said they have stepped up vigil on illegal stocking and sales of explosives in wake of the Puttingal temple tragedy which claimed over 100 lives.
