The gutkha packets containing over 85 bags were seized yesterday while these were taken from a manufacturing unit at Bada bazar area for transportation to Andhra Pradesh, Sub-divisional Police Officer, Berhampur BK Panigrahi said.
The police also detained a person allegedly involved in the trade and sealed the gutka manufacturing unit, while the value of the seized gutkha was being assessed.
This was the first haul of gutkha in the district after the state government notified the ban on manufacture and sale of gutkha and paan masala containing tobacco in the state on Friday.
