A huge volume of sandalwood worth Rs 2.3 crore was recovered from a house and the house owner arrested at Sisubari in Alupurduar district, police said today.

Acting on a tip off, police raided the house and recovered the sandalwood last night. Wasim Akram, owner of the house, was arrested, Additional SP Akash Megharia said.

Akram's mother had claimed that her son was not involved in storing the sandalwood. Three persons who had recently rented a room of the house were responsible for it, she alleged.

All aspects were being looked into, Megharia said.
