Hollywood star Hugh Jackman has landed a new role as a global ambassador for his native Australia's national airline Qantas.

The "X-Men" star, who is based in New York, will help to boost the brand's name recognition across the world and encourage tourists to go Down Under.

"I travel a lot and like all Aussies, I get a buzz whenever I see the familiar red tail and the kangaroo logo (of Qantas), no matter where I am in the world. Qantas is a great airline with great people and represents the very best of our wonderful country.

"Qantas has always had a vital role in promoting Australia as a tourism destination and I am looking forward to playing my part as we work together to showcase our amazing cities, landscapes and experiences in the USA, Asia and beyond," he said.

Jackman, 46, will also work with Qantas bosses on a variety of community projects, which will be announced in the near future.
