Actor Hugh Jackman has been confirmed to star in Joe Wright's 'Pan'.

Warner Bros - the studio behind the picture - announced that the 45-year-old Australian actor has been cast in the role of Blackbeard, reported The Wrap.

"Hugh Jackman always delivers indelible performances that resonate with audiences," said Greg Silverman, president of creative development and worldwide production at Warner Bros.

"We know he will create a Blackbeard who will be a powerful presence in this original Peter Pan adventure."

'Pan' will tell the story of Peter Pan and Hook's early friendship, when the would-be villain was working as a member of Blackbeard's pirate ship.

Jackman was first linked to the origin story last year, after Javier Bardem pulled out of the project's pirate captain role.

Garrett Hedlund ('Tron: Legacy') is said to be in talks to play Hook, with the part of Peter Pan yet to be cast.

'Pan' is scheduled for release on June 26, 2015.
