Hundreds of people from different walks of life came together to form a human chain against communalism and divisive politics here.

Participants formed the human chain from the clock tower to Nehru Maidan last evening under the banner of 'Souhardategagi Karnataka' (Karnataka for harmony).

Addressing a public meeting later, Chief minister's media adviser Dinesh Amin Mattu said it was "unfortunate" that there were Hindu leaders who defend Nathuram Godse and roam freely in the country.

"These very people who indulged in anti-social activities should be put behind bars," he said.

On the upcoming assembly elections in Karnataka, he said, Development issues have to be discussed.

The country would only progress if voters think about development and a clean administration, he added.

City mayor Kavitha Sanil, Fr Onil D'Souza, DYFI president Muneer Katipalla, and former mayor Ashraf were among those present.
