They were humiliated in their own village but feted abroad.

That is the story of a group of young tribal girl footballers from a village near here who recently played in two competitions in Spain and finished third in one of them.

13-year-old Rinki Kumari, one of the members of the team 'My Yuva India', said they had played two tournaments in Gasteiz and Donosti and finished third in the Gasteiz tourney in Spain.

Rinki, living at Ormanjhi village on the outskirts of Ranchi, recalled the happy time she and her teammaters had playing in the tournament in Spain participated by ten teams.

By contrast, she reminisced how the panchayat sevak had allegedly slapped her and another girl and made them sweep the panchayat office room in April when they went to request for birth certificate to get the passport done ahead of their visit to Spain.

The sevak was reportedly removed from his post by the district administration.
