Hundreds of acres of land have been inundated at Nasiti village in the district after a large breach in Mant Branch Ganges Canal but no lives were lost.
The breach developed in the wee hours yesterday after land adjacent to the canal service road was dug up by the Jal Nigam contractor for laying a pipeline
The breach was later plugged and the service road reconstructed.

A strategy of reducing flow of water was adopted for plugging the gap.
"While the flow of water of the canal was reduced by opening Harnaul scape, Balanpur scape and Hathras branch of the canal, it was furtherminimised by the distribution of water through Gorai, Jarara, Bajna and Mursan distributors," Chaudhary said.
As a precautionary measure, a team of four persons are keeping close watch on the repaired service road and plugged breachround the clock.
