Hurricane Amanda unexpectedly regained some strength today, but remained far off Mexico's Pacific coast and posed no threat to land.
The hurricane's maximum sustained winds were hitting 195 kph this morning, making it a Category 3 storm. But the US National Hurricane Center said weakening is expected to resume and Amanda should become a tropical storm by Thursday.
The hurricane was centered about 945 kilometres south- southwest of the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California peninsula and is moving north-northwest near 9 kph.
