Hurriyat moves HC seeking ban on use of lethal weapons during

Moderate faction of Hurriyat Conference, led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today moved the Jammu and Kashmir High Court seeking a complete ban on use of lethal weapons including pellet guns during protests.

"Hurriyat Conference today filed a writ petition in the High Court seeking a ban on use of lethal weapons including pellet guns," a spokesman of the amalgam said.

The separatist amalgam is also seeking compensation for the kin of those killed due to use of these weapons during peaceful protests.

"The writ petition also demands action against police personnel who used these weapons to kill or injure protesters," the spokesman said.
 

The Hurriyat has collected data related to deaths caused by use of pellet guns and other lethal weapons on protesters over the past three years, he added.
