Authorities today barred hardline Hurriyat Conference from organising a seminar outside the house of its chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani and also detained six persons who protested the move.

The Hurriyat had planned a seminar on 'Islam - The Protector of Humanity' at Geelani's residence at Hyderpora on Srinagar Airport road today.

However, policemen did not allow the invitees to enter the premises and also detained six persons including three Hurriyat activists when they protested the move, a spokesman of the amalgam said in a statement.

Geelani is under house arrest. But he is allowed to hold meeting of his amalgam and even organise seminars occasionally.

The Hurriyat chairman has condemned the move.

"The government is playing a dangerous game by its continuous ban on peaceful political activities. The policy only adds to the political uncertainty," Geelani said.
