Husband held for teacher-wife's murder

A 48-year-old man has been arrested for the murder of his teacher-wife in February last year, police said today.

The Crime Branch of Delhi Police arrested Hemant Chaturvedi from Kotdwar area in Uttarakhand on May 25 for the murder of his wife Kaumudi Chaturvedi, a senior police officer said.

Kaumudi, a teacher at a reputed school in Rohini, was found dead at her residence on February 25 last year. Hemant, to whom she was married since 1988, has been on the run since then, the officer said.

"Few years after their marriage, marital discord started developing between them which led to the murder of Kaumudi. On February 25 last year, Hemant slit her throat and fled the spot," the officer said.
 

After declaring a reward of Rs 50,000 for information on Hemant, police got a tip-off that he was hiding in Kotdwar of Uttrakhand and arrested him from there.

"He stayed at Bareilly, Bhopal, Pune, Mumbai, Goa, Haridwar, Rishikesh and Kotdwar, Uttarakhand till he was apprehended," the officer added.
