Hyderabad records 6% reduction in overall crime in 2018

: Core policing helped Hyderabad register a six per cent reduction in overall crime in 2018 compared to last year, a top police official said Wednesday.

A total of 15,215 cases were reported this year as against 16,140 cases in 2017.

"Core policing remained at the central focus to achieve six per cent reduction in overall crime in 2018," Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar told reporters here.

There was a 13 per cent reduction in grave property crimes, from 203 last year to 176 this year, he said.

Crimes against women declined by 38 per cent, he said.

Property crimes decreased by 20.5 per cent, from 3,050 to 2,432 and property recovery in grave crime attained 92 per cent, Kumar said.

 

The number of murders, however, increased from 75 to 81, he said

Successful strategies like initiation ofstringent Preventive Detention Act against notorious and repeat offenders, constant surveillance through criminal tracking system, cordon and search operations, community CCTV installations and integrated traffic management system paid rich dividends, he said.

Detection of major like theft of a Rs 50 crore antique tiffin box studded with diamonds from the Nizam's Museum, kidnap of a newly born girl from the state-run maternity hospital in Koti,seizure of about Rs 29 crore during the assembly elections, increased conviction rate of 34 per cent were among the achievements, he added.

Going forward, all city police stations would be linked to courts next year with total integration of prosecution and courts, Forensic Science Laboratory, Prisons and Fingerprint Bureau, besides electronic delivery of summons and warrants through smart phones, Kumar said.

Plans for 2018 include completion of an Integrated Command and Control Centre, activation of automatic number plate reading cameras, optimisation of signal timing based on volume of traffic, extending of 'Women on Wheels' patrol teams to all police stations and developing a new App for safety and convenience of senior citizens, he said.
