Ready with his fourth film 'Ek Phali Rodh', slated for a Diwali release, Rupkatha Noy director Atanu Ghosh says he believes in casting veteran actors in lead roles.

"In Rupkatha Noy, Soumitra Kaku (Soumitra Chatterjee) is the main lead which is a trend in west where even actors in 70s ad 80s are seen as protagonists unlike in India," Ghosh said.

Pointing out the thespian got such a role after about two decades, the Takhan Teish maker said, "After Wheelchair he did not get such a character."

"In fact Sounitrada himself had said at a press conference about the film that he was yearning for such a role for over 15 years," Atanu said on the sidelines of the premier of the film.

Atanu, whose Angshumaner Chhobi on an independent director had got national award, said he was again casting a veteran, Dhritiman Chatterjee, in a lead role in 'Ek Phali Rodh'.

"I don't go by the uaual trend here to offer less substantial roles to veterans. Dhritimanda is the pivot of Ek Phali Rodh but his character is so unlike Soumitrakaku's in Rupkatha Noy," he said.

"What a role by Soumitrada! Don't know if one should envy him," senior actor Sabyasachi Chakroborty, whose actor son Gourab and wife Mithu turn up as on-screen mom-son in the movie, said.
