The Information and Broadcasting Ministry has asked broadcasters to utilise DD News feed carrying the sign language interpretation of Independence Day ceremony and commentary to facilitate access to people with hearing impairment.
In an advisory issued to broadcasters, the ministry said that it has been getting requests from members of the civil society to facilitate access to the people with hearing impairment to the telecast of the Independence Day ceremony, accompanied with sign language interpretation.
Public broadcaster Doordarshan has informed that DD News channel will carry the sign language interpretation of the event, the ministry said.

DD News will also let private satellite TV channels carry the feed of this event free of cost, if they wish to carry the same telecast, it added.
The ministry advised TV channels, interested in carrying live telecost of the Independence Day Ceremony, that they may carry signals of DD News with sign language interpretation so that people with hearing impairment could enjoy the telecast.
Officials sources said that the ministry has also readied elaborate plans to publicise the event including with certain hashtags on the social media.
