Film actress-turned politician Moon Moon Sen, who is a Trinamool Congress candidate for Bankura Lok Sabha seat, today said that party supremo Mamata Banerjee was her inspiration.

Sen made her first public appearance as a politician at a party workers' meet here, saying "I have drawn inspiration from Mamata Banerjee when I came to know her closely during the last days of my mother in a hospital."

"I have come here to serve the people. I'll see to it that the local problems are sorted out if I am elected in the election," said the actress who featured in 60 films in Bengali and six other languages.

Daughter of legendary Bengali actress late Suchitra Sen, Moon Moon was greeted by about 50,000 workers, including many women, in the meet which was also attended by party general secretary Mukul Roy and state minister Subrato Mukherjee.

Pitted against CPI(M) stalwart and sitting MP Basudev Acharya, the 66-year-old actress sought the cooperation of the grassroots workers to win the seat.
