I-T inspectors attacked by builder, associates

Two Income Tax officials who had visited the office of a local builder to detect probable duty evasion, were allegedly attacked by him and his associates today, police said.

"The I-T inspectors, Ajay Kumar and Dananjay Kumar have sustained injuries in the attack and had to be rushed to hospital," said Gorakhpur police station Assistant sub-inspector Bhanu Pratap.

A hunt is on to trace eight accused, including Satyam Jain, owner of Ojaswi Imperial, Rahul Thakur, Sandip, Nikky, Rocky, Ganesh, Balram and another person, he said, adding the accused have been booked under various charges.

Assistant IT Commissioner (Investigations) Alok Bhura said that when he, along with four staffers of his department, was carrying out a survey (to go through the files to detect tax evasion) at Ojaswi Imperial's office at Bhandaria square, Jain and his men attacked them with sticks around 5 pm.
 

They even had a scuffle with the policemen who were providing security cover to us, he said, adding "Our two inspectors have sustained injuries.
