His performance in "October" was well-received by both the audiences as well as the critics and going forward Varun Dhawan says his aim is to pick characters which will give him opportunity to explore the "real" stories.

The 31-year-old actor, who will next be seen in "Sui Dhaaga: Made In India", said the film made him aware about the struggles Indian craftsmen go through to make their art survive.

"I want to do films which give me a reality check. After doing 'Sui Dhaga', my whole outlook towards designing as a profession has changed. I have so much more respect for people who create clothes and the artistes who do the work. It is not an easy job.

"I understand a lot more about what India's textile heritage is and I feel proud of it. It's an art and I have tremendous respect for the artistes behind it. The film has been an emotional journey and has made me really aware about the struggles these artistes have," Varun told PTI.

The actor plays the role of a tailor, Mauji, in the film which also features Anushka Sharma.

Directed by Sharat Katariya and produced by Maneesh Sharma under the banner of Yash Raj Films, the "Sui Dhaga: Made In India" is set to release on September 28.

Varun was speaking on the sidelines of Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2018, where he walked the ramp for designer Kunal Rawal.
