TV actress Ankita Lokhande has revealed that she was considered to play the female lead in Shah Rukh Khan-starrer 'Happy New Year'.

Ankita, 28, who is famous as Archana in the hit TV serial 'Pavitra Rishta', was supposed to star alongside Shah Rukh but things did not work in her favour as Deepika Padukone was roped in to play the leading lady in the film.

"I was considered for this role, so it is a good thing. It is unfortunate it couldn't happen. I don't know why things did not work out. I think there is a prejudice against TV actors. I was working on TV, and if I was considered for it is a big thing," Ankita told PTI.

Directed by choreographer-director Farah Khan, 'Happy New Year' also stars Abhishek Bachchan and Boman Irani in prominent roles.

The film revolves around a bunch of male friends and how situation forces them to participate in a dance competition.

The female lead will apparently play the role of a bar dancer, who will help these friends win the dance trophy.

In her popular TV show 'Pavitra Rishta', Ankita plays a double role.

"It is difficult to portray a double role, change your character twice. It is tiring. I am working hard on it," she added.
